XBMC is a free and open source award winning media player available for Linux, OSX and Windows. It provides the one stop solution for all your digital media entertainment. Currently it supports all the popular video and audio formats. It was designed to network playback, so you can stream your multimedia anywhere from your place or directly from your internet. XBMC able to play CD/DVD from your digital media or image files and almost all archieve files, even the files inside the ZIP and RAR archieves. It provides a wonderful interface to the user. This guide explains you how to install XBMC in your linux operating system For Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin sudo apt-add-repository ppa:nathan-renniewaldock/xbmc-stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install xbmc For older version of ubuntu sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install xbmc For Fedora 15, 16, 17 XBMC is available in RPMFusion repository. Add this RPMFusion repository to your system su -c ‘yum localinstall –nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm’ sudo yum install xbmc For RHEL 6 and CentOS 6 Add this RPMFusion repository su -c ‘yum localinstall –nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/el/updates/6/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-6-1.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/el/updates/6/i386/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-6-1.noarch.rpm’ sudo yum install xbmc For openSUSE XBMC is available in packman repository.
